Frequently Asked Questions

Whether you're preparing for your upcoming appointment at Oak City Vision Center or trying to figure out if our office is the right fit for you, please find the answers to our most frequently asked questions below.

How long will my eye exam last?

Expect to be in the office for approximately one hour.

What do I need to bring with me to my appointment?

A photo ID and insurance card if you want to plan to use your insurance to pay for your visit. Documents must be valid and not expired. Anyone over the age of 18 cannot be seen without a valid form of identification.

Do my eyes have to be dilated at my exam?

You have the option to either be dilated or have retinal imaging performed at your appointment to check the health of the inside of your eyes, which is a requirement at our practice. Please note that your insurance carrier may have a copay for retinal imaging.

What if I do not want the dilation or retinal imaging?

We perform comprehensive eye exams at Oak City Vision Center, which includes checking the health of the inside of your eye.  This is a non-negotiable in our office.

What happens if I am running late to my appointment?

We have a 10 minute grace period. If you are running more than 10 minutes late, we will likely have to reschedule your appointment or there may be a wait.

If I arrive early to my appointment, will I be seen earlier?

Unfortunately not.

I don't have insurance. How much is an eye exam?

$125, which includes a glasses prescription and retinal photography at no additional cost.

What is the average turn around time for my glasses?

Two weeks. Some more complex glasses orders may take longer than two weeks.

Do you see children?

We see children 6 years and older. Children must be dilated at their first appointment with Dr. Oliver. No exceptions.

How often should I get an eye exam?

Once a year for most patients. Some systemic and ocular health conditions may require a check-up more than once a year.
